Exercise Physiology

What is exercise physiology and how will it benefit me?

Our Bonfire Health Exercise Physiologist is here to help you achieve more independence and improve your quality of life through personalised exercise and movement plans tailored to your needs. Whether you’re managing a disability or simply finding it harder to move and stay active as you age, we will create a safe, supportive program designed just for you!

Our exercise physiology programs are designed to help you to increase your strength, balance, and mobility—making daily tasks easier and reducing the risk of falls or injuries. It is important to us that you maintain confidence in your body and stay active, so you can live with greater freedom and choice.

Exercise Physiology Timetable 2024

Exercise physiology options:

1:1 Sessions

In our initial consultation, you can tell me about what is limiting you with your condition, injury, or disability. I then assess your current physical capacity. It is our job as exercise physiologists to use standardized tests relevant to your condition and then create a safe exercise program to improve on these outcomes and meet your goals.

In our follow up consultations, we go through the exercise program that we developed in the first session. During this consultation we can make any adjustments to the program and we can see if we need to progress or regress the exercises.

Group Sessions

At Bonfire, we have three exercise physiology group classes which include:

Movers & Shakers

Improve independence & quality of life

Why is exercise important for me?

Improve Daily Living and Activity

At Bonfire Health it is our job to help you achieve your goals of independence. Using exercise, we can improve our function to allow us to complete everyday tasks and activities!

Improve Your Strength, Balance & Coordination

Strength, balance, coordination, and fitness are all components that decrease over time if we arent actively using it. Our muscles and bones adapt under load and get stronger when we gradually expose them to exercise!

Reduced Falls

As we get older, our balance can often decline, putting us at a higher risk of falls. Practicing regular balance exercises help us improve our stability and reduce the risk of falls.

Manage your Conditions

We specialise in the prescription of exercise for chronic disease and disability. We know how to implement safe exercise sessions for people that are limited by their current ability.

Enjoy social and community participation

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring! Our exercise sessions often involve game based exercises that help our coordination, reflexes, fine and gross motor control and gets our heart pumping!

Improve Mobility & Motor Control

We know that improving our lower limb strength and walking speed greatly improves our mobility while targeted exercises can help improve fine motor control and coordination.
